I když se již nyní datuje polovina roku 2017, rád bych touto cestou ještě mimořádně zavzpomínal a poděkoval policistkám a policistům, kteří působili pod mým velením v rámci společných hlídek vyslaných do Makedonie/FYROM v roce 2016.

V tomto roce jsem byl vyslán jako velitel kontingentu Policie České republiky na čtyři turnusy do Makedonie/FYROM.  Spolu se mnou bylo v šestitýdenních turnusech vysláno i 39 policistů a v některých případech i  pár čtyřnohých kolegů.

Služba v Makedonii nebyla  vždy jednoduchá. Kromě jazykové bariéry, kterou se úspěšně dařilo překonávat, se vyskytly i komplikace, které nejsou pro běžného policistu zcela obvyklé. Místo působení na jižní hranici v Gevgelii je jedním z nejteplejších míst v Makedonii, teploty během léta stoupají běžně přes 40 stupňů Celsia.  Náročný kopcovitý terén a často extrémní podmínky služby prověřily možnosti řidičů a služebních vozidel při výkonu služby stejně jako fyzické schopnosti každého policisty a jejich výstroje.  Častý výskyt jedovatých hadů, škorpiónů a pavouků v letních měsících si také vybral svou daň v podobě uštknutí jednoho policisty škorpionem a služebního psa zmijí růžkatou.

Působil jsem zde dohromady více než šest měsíců. Zažil jsem vlnu uprchlíků, kteří se snažili dostat Balkánskou cestou do svých vysněných destinací, eskalaci násilí v uprchlickém táboře v Idomeni během nepokojů, až po  následné klidnější období, kdy jsme se zaměřovali zejména  na boj s převaděči, kteří nadále v oblasti působili.

Pro mnohé z kolegů, včetně mne samotného, je  tato část života již uzavřenou kapitolou. Pro další kolegy ještě stále  otevřenou knihou, do které možná začnou psát svůj vlastní příběh.

Chci poděkovat svým kolegům, kteří byli se mnou vysláni, a především také rodinám těchto policistů za podporu, bez které by se naše služba rozhodně neobešla. Právě našim blízkým patří dík za trpělivost a toleranci, když jsme je při službě vlasti ochudili o společně strávené chvíle.

Nyní již působím jinde, nicméně stále vzpomínám  a vím, že jistě nejsem jediný.

Although it is already halfway through year 2017, I still like to remember with feeling of gratitude  my colleagues, Czech Police officers, serving under my command in  joint border patrols deployed to Macedonia(FYROM) in  2016.

In this year, I´ve served  four times  as the Commander of the Czech Police Contingent deployed for six weeks rounds to Macedonia (FYROM). I was honoured to serve alongside with 39 police officers and sometimes also with our animal colleagues, our police service dogs.

Fulfilling our duty in Macedonia was not always easy. In addition to handling the language barrier between us and our MK colleagues, there were more issues due to the fact  that service in Macedonia is far from regular police service as we are used to.

The area of responsibility is on the southern border with Greece, and the town of Gevgelia is one of the warmest places in the country. Temperatures in summer usually rise sky high, very often above 40 degrees Celsius, and the summer starts very early and lasts long. Hilly terrain in our area of responsibility was another challenge because it   pushed the drivers skills to the very limit and proved the technical limits of our service vehicles as well. Not to mention the physical capabilities of each and ever police officer and the quality of our equipment. The frequent occurrence of poisonous snakes, scorpions and spiders has also taken its toll when a police officer was stung by a scorpion, and a service dog was bitten by a Balkan viper.

I've been there for more than six months in total. I´ve witnessed the mass wave of refugees who tried to get through the Balkan route rushing to their dream destinations. I´ve experienced the escalation of violence at the refugee camp “Idomeni” positioned just on the other side of the border fence between Macedonia(FYROM) and Greece. But also worthy to mention, that , I´ve served in a subsequently quieter period which followed after the wild times, when we´vefocused on the prevention of organized smugglers, who unfortunately still continue to work in this region.

For many of us, including myself, this chapter is already closed. For another people  it is still opened book, a page they will maybe start to write themselves.  I want to express my deepest respect and my gratitude to all of my colleagues.  But above all, a huge respect and much credit belong to   our families and loved ones for supporting us on this mission. We owe them very much for their patience and endless support, even though we´ve stolen the precious time of our presence with them while serving our country instead. 

Now I'm serving somewhere else. But I still like to reflect on this Mission. Time to time I stand for a while in silence and remember on my brothers and sisters in arms…..  I´m certain I'm not the only one.
